Margaret Thatcher (1925-2013) by Christopher Hitchens
It is easy to summarize the foulness of the Thatcher years: the combination of Malthus and Ayn Rand that went to make up her social philosophy; the police mentality that she evinced when faced with dissent; the awful toadying to Reagan and now Bush; the indulgence shown to apartheid; the coarse, racist betrayal of Hong Kong; the destruction of local democracy and autonomous popular institutions. Yet every Tory in the House had voted gleefully for all of those things, and one of them, her newly anointed clone, John Major, has disagreed with Thatcher only from the right. While on the ostensible issue of principle, a common European system. Labor's conversion has been too late and too shallow to be convincing. From an article in The Nation called "Lessons Maggie Taught Me" December 17, 1990 |

Jerks of the month: Ted Nugent and Texas
Ted Nugent promised to be "dead or in
jail" if President Obama got re-elected. He is neither. Instead he has
decided to attend the State of the Union address at the behest of Texas
Representative Steve Stockman.
Ted Nugent who was both legal guardian and boyfriend to a 17 year old will grace Texans with his presence. Texas be ashamed be
very ashamed.

Right wing theories on green house gases.
1. They rise come from spoiled currency.
2. Are simply swamp odors.
3. Feel much like UV rays.
4. Counteract microwaves.
5. Are good sources of protein.

Mitt Romney: 47 percent jerk!
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no
matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are
dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who
believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who
believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to
you-name-it -- that that's an entitlement. And the government should
give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what.
... These are people who pay no income tax. ... [M]y job is not to worry
about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal
responsibility and care for their lives."
